Pick the old version ("before") first, then the new one ("after") — in that order, in the same selection. If it comes out backwards, there is a "Swap order" button right at the top of the result that flips the comparison instantly, no need to choose the files again.
The tool reads the text of both PDFs, paragraph by paragraph, and uses a diff algorithm (the same kind used to compare versions of code) to find what is identical, what was removed, what was added, and what only partially changed. In changed paragraphs, it even highlights exactly which words came in and which went out — no need to reread the whole paragraph to spot the difference.
Yes, that is the most common use: comparing the draft you received with the previous version, or two vendor proposals, and quickly seeing what changed in values, deadlines and clauses — without reading line by line.
Text comparison is exact (it is not an AI "guessing" what changed — it is a deterministic algorithm). What can vary is the paragraph splitting: PDFs with unusual layouts (columns, complex tables) may group or separate chunks differently than expected. For important reviews, use the result as a guide and confirm critical points in the original PDF.
No. The comparison depends on the PDF having selectable text. If it is a photo of the document, there is no text to compare — in that case, use "Extract text from photo (OCR)" on each version first.
